Introductory Diversity Thinking Workshop

The business environment is ever changing and competitive. The diversity of the available labor pool challenges all of us to improve our interpersonal skills and get comfortable with “differentness”. It is important that all employees, managers and leaders be able to not only work with diverse groups but also take advantage of the strengths and talents a diverse workforce offers. In this Introductory Diversity Thinking Workshop you will learn more about diversity issues, how diversity positively impacts the bottom line and begin to examine the skills needed to drive change. You will also learn to effectively use the “I” message to support your skill building and improve communication and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

At the end of this class you will be able to:

• develop strategies to effectively define diversity in the broadest sense and correctly dismiss the

   myths that exist regarding diversity.
• use self awareness to examine your understanding of diversity.
• use indicators of inclusion and exclusion to identify diversity opportunities.
• articulate the business case for diversity.
• identify and prioritize potential steps to improve your diversity competence.
• begin to examine the benefits of an inclusive diverse work environment.
